Nairobi. Not what I expected. Maybe after 40hrs of traveling with only 3 hours of sleep makes everything seem weird and different. We had to sleep in the Nairobi airport for the night before our extremely long flight of 55 minutes to Kisumu. :P "Sleeping for the night in the airport" consisted of eating "dinner" at 11:30pm, falling asleep on a chair at 1am and waking up at 3:30am. Once in Kisumu, we got a taxi and got driven to Priscilla's. My first thought when coming to Kenya was: "This reminds me so much of Trinidad." With the greenery and scenery, it was all so gorgeous. I was also so amazed at all the staring faces while we were driving. I just can't get used to everyone staring at us 24/7. At Priscilla's (the lady who started the school), I almost didn't want to unpack or eat lunch; I just wanted to go visit the school, though after everyone was settled, we walked over to the school and it was so awesome seeing all the kids. We came in during a very special day. The class 8 (the highest grade at the school) were graduating and are going to take exams in a few days. There was a big ceremony with a lot of speeches throughout the day. When it was over, we got to play with the kids and talk to them. I was so happy as at one point we were all playing soccer. I've already learned a bunch of new tricks. The kids also were so into our cameras. They were very excited whenever they got to see their picture. Another thing they loved was magic tricks. My dad and Scott had some tricks prepared and the kids went crazy over them. When it started to rain, I continued playing soccer with the few guys who were brave enough to hold out the rain. I thought the dirt was going to turn to mud, but it seemed like it kind of skipped that step and went straight to mini-river. The next day (today), I woke up to the wonderful sound of millions of birds chirping. When we finally went to the school this morning, they were having a community church service. We all gave a short speech, I did mine with my mom and we told one of Professor's story of the donkey, the boy and his grandfather. We handed out things to the kids to write their letters back to their penpals in Canada. I found some chickens and roosters running around and I really wanted to catch one. I chased it into a classroom and the kids helped me catch it. When I was holding it, Dad gave me a bug in the other hand so I had a 'rooster and a bug'! :D (That was just for Michael <3). All of a sudden kids from a bunch of classes came running out and started EATING BUGS!!! AND they wanted me to eat it too! Can you believe it?! It was insane! They just picked it up with wings and all and just put it in their mouths! My dad, Matias and Laurissa ended up trying it and Matias even had 3 bugs! I was in awe. After a nice ugali lunch, the 8 of us were driven to downtown Mbale where we finally get internet to write this.
Don't know when I'll get another chance to write, but until next time :)
